On March 10, 2017 at about 4pm, Juneau Police Department officers responded to the Bergmann Hotel to provide assistance to Capital City Fire/Rescue and CBJ Community Development staff. The building was shut down and condemned by the City due to failure of the owner and management to address outstanding building and fire code violations.
Charles E. Cotten, a 51 year old Juneau resident, was remanded for violating conditions of release on a previous misdemeanor charge. Cotten was also charged with a new count of Reckless or Intentional Violation of a Lawful Order of the Building Official, an A misdemeanor.
He was transported to Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
