INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Suspect Arrested for Two Burglaries
Date: 2017-02-28
From: Erann Kalwara - JPD PIO
Case or Incident: #170228-015 & 170228-009
Summary:

At about 1:45pm today, JPD received a report of an intrusion alarm occurring at a residence on Columbia Boulevard. Officers responded and determined that the back door had been kicked in causing about $500 damage. The homeowner advised nothing appeared to be missing from the residence.

At about 2:45pm a citizen reported a suspicious subject carrying a duffle bag in the area of View Drive near Mendenhall Loop Road (Back Loop). JPD officers and a Forest Service officer responded to the area.

One JPD officer discovered footprints leading from the area to a residence in the 9300 block of Mendenhall Loop Road. Other officers located a male in the woods who matched the description of the suspicious subject. JPD Detectives responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

The subject was identified as 36 year old Juneau resident Jeremiah M. Houston. As officers conducted the initial investigation, it was determined that Houston had property belonging to the homeowner of the residence in the 9300 block of Mendenhall Loop Road. Entry appears to have been made into that residence by prying a door open. Approximately $2,300 of property was taken from the residence.

Houston was arrested for two counts of Burglary in the 1st degree, Theft in the 2nd degree and Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree. He was transported to Lemon Creek Correctional Center. The investigation continues.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
