INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Injury Motor Vehicle Collision
Date: 2016-12-02
From: Lt. Kris Sell
Case or Incident: #161202-010
Summary:

On December 2, 2016, at about 4:16 in the afternoon, the Juneau Police Department received a report that there was a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Egan Drive and the Fred Meyer access road. Four vehicles were involved and six people were transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital. The most seriously injured person has a broken bone in her foot and a dislocated shoulder. A child also sustained head lacerations.

The preliminary investigation shows a 27 year old Juneau woman, alone in a vehicle, was attempting to turn left and cross Egan Drive outbound to go Fred Meyer. There was not adequate distance from a vehicle traveling Egan outbound in the fast lane. The outbound vehicle, containing four family members including two children, struck the passenger side of the vehicle that was driven by the 27 year old woman.

The two vehicles from the initial collision spun out of control and struck two more vehicles. Both of those vehicles were occupied by only the driver. A 54 year old Juneau man sustained minor injuries and a 64 year old Juneau man was not injured.

The investigation is continuing and no one has been charged at this time. Egan Drive was closed in both directions right after the collision. Traffic delays continued as only one lane in each direction could be opened during the investigation. All lanes were open at 6:48 pm.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
