INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Criminal Mischief
Date: 2016-11-11
From: Sgt. Chris Gifford
Case or Incident: #161110-013
Summary:

On 11-10-2016 at 7:25 PM, JPD received a call from a man reporting his stepson was involved in a physical altercation with his wife in the Radcliffe and Berners Avenue area. The caller had locked his stepson, a 23 YO male who was carrying a machete, out of the residence. The subject left the area and was shortly after reported by neighbors in the area to be threatening to damage property, and later reported to JPD by another group of people in the 9300 block of Glacier Highway. That caller reported the same man had damaged two vehicles parked in a parking lot of a business. Officers located the man, who had been confronted by several people. As officers arrived, the subject picked up a machete from the ground and began to run from the area. Officers followed him, and at one point he turned and tossed the machete in the direction of the police officers. An officer shot the person with a Taser, and he was taken into custody. He was transported by ambulance to the Bartlett Regional Hospital where he was evaluated for minor injuries and later taken into protective custody for treatment of a mental health emergency.

Charges will be forwarded to the city prosecutor?s office in consideration of charging the man with two counts of Criminal Mischief and one count of Assault.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
