***********************************

On the afternoon of October 27th, 2016, a 71 year old Juneau man reported leaving two rifles in cloth cases leaning against a bench at the airport while he moved his belongings further down the curb to load his vehicle. The man never left the area of the curb. When he returned to the bench to retrieve the rifles, they were gone.

Security video showed a male, wearing a black coat, pajama style flannel pants and a baseball cap took the firearms. The man was seen just before noon inside the airport carrying an orange hard plastic case. It was determined that after the suspect stole the guns, he left the area on a bicycle with the orange case secured to the rear rack of the bike.

The firearms are described as follows: Remington Model 700, .35 Whelen caliber with walnut stock, valued at $1,000 and a Remington Model 700, .30-06 caliber with walnut stock valued at $1,000. Both rifles were equipped with slings and Bushnell Banner scopes.

Photographs of the suspect are included with this press release and will be posted on Facebook. The suspect appears to be a white adult male about 25-35 years old, with close-cut or shaved hair, red or brown facial hair, wearing a dark coat, plaid pants, black and white baseball cap with red bill and white patch.

Anyone with information about the missing firearms or identity of the suspect is encouraged to call JPD at 586-0600.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues.
