With the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend checks starting to be distributed, JPD wants to remind people to be on guard for potential scams. So far, JPD has received one report of a scam attempt.

On 10/06/2016, at 12:57 PM, JPD received a report that a Juneau resident was contacted via phone by a person claiming to be with the Juneau Police Department. The caller ID indicated that the call was being placed from 586-0600, which is the business phone number for JPD. The scammer claimed to be a JPD employee and told the resident that they owed money and needed to contact a long distance phone number to set up a payment. The resident did not call the number provided and reported the incident to JPD.

JPD recommends that if you are ever contacted by any agency asking for money that you independently verify the identity of the person making the request. For the Juneau Police Department, payment for impounds are accepted at the JPD front desk. All other payments are only handled locally by the City and Borough of Juneau Finance Department.
