INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: 2017-A Year Of Kindness
Date: 2016-09-15
From: Lt. Kris Sell
Case or Incident: #N/A
Summary:

The Juneau Police Department is recruiting partners to make 2017 A Year Of Kindness. JPD hopes the community can work together to increase kind acts to the level that quality of life is measurably improved across the community. JPD is asking every resident to do at least one kind act a day and make one kind act a week directed at someone of a different race, religion, culture, or socio-economic background. We hope acts of kindness can build bridges and make Juneau increasingly inclusive.

JPD is partnering with groups who will encourage acts of kindness and who are willing to launch specific surges of kindness in 2017. Some early kindness partners are the Juneau School District and Tlingit and Haida Central Council. JPD will be telling the public, through our Facebook page, about acts of kindness we find and will feature different groups that are participating each week of 2017. The group who has volunteered to go first as a featured group is the staff and inmates of the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

There will be a series of meetings for people interested in being Kindness Champions, donating a few hours a week to supporting kindness activities. Those meetings will be on September 24, 10am to noon at JPD, October 22, 10am to noon at JPD, and November 18, 6pm to 8pm at JPD.

If you have questions or what your group to be highlighted during a certain week of 2017, please call Lt. Kris Sell at 500-0646 or [email protected].
