INFORMATION RELEASE

On September 10, 2016, at about 2:48 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of one or two males attempting to break into a residence in the 2500 block of Teslin St. Officers were dispatched and responded.

On arrival about two minutes later, officers located a male walking away from the residence through a side yard towards a wooded area. Officers told the male to stop and the male ran into the wooded area where he hid. Officers searched the wooded area, locating the male several minutes later. The male again took off running and after a short foot chase, the male was tackled and taken into custody. The male was identified as 21 year old Demetrius Campos.

The residents reported that Campos tried climbing through a bedroom window and had threatened the residents. A resident, armed with a rifle, struck Campos in the head with the butt stock of the rifle. Campos jumped out of the window and went to a second window, breaking the screen off the window in attempt to again make entry into the residence.

Campos never was able to gain entry into the residence. He was examined by Capital City Fire/Rescue medics as a matter of routine evaluation. Campos was then transported to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center on charges of Burglary in the 1st Degree, Assault in the 4th Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the 5th Degree. Burglary in the 1st Degree is a class B felony, Assault in the 4th Degree is a class A misdemeanor, and Criminal Mischief in the 5th Degree is a class B misdemeanor. Campos was held without bail per the bail schedule.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this case. There were no other suspects in this case.
