On 08/07/2016, at about 1715 hours, the Juneau Police Department received a report that a person had stolen something and there was another person holding the suspect down.
Officers responded and detained Michael Hoyt. The subsequent investigation showed many people had seen Michael Hoyt approach an incapacitated male and steal a cell phone from his pocket. When a witness tried to stop Hoyt, he ran but was soon caught by the witness who pursued him in an attempt to stop the theft.
Hoyt fought with the witness but was detained until officers arrived. Hoyt was treated for injuries at Bartlett Regional Hospital and then lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center on a charge of Robbery in the 2nd Degree.
