Summary:

The Juneau Police Department is seeking help from the public to identify a person, or persons, who destroyed a boat by setting it on fire in the 3800 block of Riverside Drive. This is the second time in two days that the same boat was damaged by fire.

First, on 07/13/2016 the boat owner reported that an unknown person had vandalized the boat with spray paint and attempted to light it on fire. The boat owner is a 47 year old male Juneau resident. The vandalism included a racial slur against the man?s race.

Second, on 07/14/2016 at approximately 3:43 AM, the Juneau Police received multiple reports of an explosion coming from the same area of Riverside Drive. Officers and Capital City Fire Rescue personnel arrived within seven minutes and discovered the same boat engulfed in flames. The boat, a 21 foot fiberglass Bayliner, was destroyed by the fire. CCFR personnel were able to extinguish the fire.

Anyone with information concerning these fires are encouraged to contact the Juneau Police Department or Juneau Crimeline immediately.

The investigation is on-going.
