The Juneau Police Department has received multiple requests to have Saturday hours for drug drop offs. You can drop off unwanted prescription and over the counter drugs this coming Saturday. The drug drop off will be open to the public and staffed by an officer on Saturday, June 25th, 2016, from 10:00 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon.
JPD does not accept needles, liquids, or gels. JPD is located at 6255 Alaway Avenue, which is near the old Walmart building.
The purpose of the drug take back is to get dangerous drugs out of home medicine cabinets and safely incinerate those drugs. Many current heroin users started their drug use with prescription medications so drug take backs are an important step in lessening the number of new drug addicts added to the community. Juneau?s surge in burglaries and thefts in 2015 and 2016 is tied to addicts trying to pay for drugs.
JPD plans another Saturday drug take back in September.
