Since 1962, May 15th of each year has been designated as Police Officer Memorial Day. The calendar week in which that day falls is designated as Police Officer Memorial Week. During the year of 2015, there were 128 police line of duty deaths. So far this year, 35 Police Officers have been killed in the line of duty.
The Police Memorial Ceremony for Juneau will be at Centennial Hall at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13th, 2016. There will also be a wreath laying at Evergreen Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. also on Friday, May 13th, 2016. The public is invited to both ceremonies.
