INFORMATION RELEASE

On April 30th, 2016 at approximately 8:50PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a Ford F-150 driving recklessly on Egan Drive, near the Juneau Empire. It was reported that the vehicle was swerving in the roadway, driving down the wrong side of the road and had almost hit people.

Officers responded to the area and located the F-150 driving inbound on Egan Drive near the hospital. Officers attempted to stop the F-150 by turning on their emergency lights, but the F-150 failed to stop. A vehicle pursuit ensued due to the danger the vehicle posed to other drivers on the roadway.

Officers followed the F-150 as it continued to drive towards the Juneau Douglas bridge and then out to North Douglas. The F-150 continually swerved in the roadway and almost struck several other vehicles head on.

Just past the area of False Otter Point, the F-150 drove off the road and crashed in the ditch. The driver of the F-150 was detained and identified as a twenty-two year old Juneau resident. CCFR responded to the scene to evaluate the driver due to minor injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was later transported to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for continued medical treatment

JPD was able to contact the registered owner of the F-150, who confirmed that the vehicle had recently been stolen from the area of Shaune Drive.

Criminal charges are pending against the driver of the vehicle for vehicle theft 1st degree, a class C felony; failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer 1st degree, a class C felony; and DUI, a class A misdemeanor.
