On March 19, 2016, at about 1:04 in the morning, multiple callers reported there was a single vehicle crash on Glacier Highway near the 20 mile marker. One caller said the passenger from the crashed vehicle had facial injuries and was lying on the ground. Juneau Police Department officers and Capital City Fire and Rescue personnel responded.
The investigation showed the person believed to be the driver left the scene prior to emergency responders arriving. The 20 year old man with facial injuries, who is from Juneau, was still at the scene. He was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital by ambulance.
Officers found that a 19 year old Juneau man was associated with the wrecked vehicle and began looking for him. That man, believed to be the driver, was contacted approximately one hour after the collision. He was detained as part of the investigation. Officers requested a medical evaluation of the 19 year old man. He was also transported to BRH as a precautionary measure.
The investigation is continuing and charges are pending. Alcohol is involved.
