On 02/24/2016, the Juneau Police Department received an online report that Native artwork had been stolen from the Glacier Valley Elementary School. The theft occurred on 01/17/2016. The artwork was valued at approximately $500.00.
On 02/29/2016, a JPD officer met with school staff and reviewed video footage of the theft. The video footage showed a 26 year old female resident stealing the artwork. The officer contacted the 26 year old female suspect and determined that the artwork was in the possession on a third person.
On 03/02/2016, JPD officers served a search warrant on a residence located in the 6900 block of Sunny Drive. Part of the stolen artwork was discovered inside the residence. The remaining artwork was later turned over to JPD.
The investigation is continuing and theft charges are pending against the 26 year old female who stole the artwork.
