On February 23rd at about 7:11AM, the Juneau Police Department received several calls on 911 regarding a single vehicle crash on Egan Drive, near Norway Point. It was reported that the vehicle was on it's roof and in the middle of the roadway.
JPD and CCFR responded to the scene. Due to the position of the crashed vehicle in the roadway, the right hand lane of Egan Drive was closed down for about thirty minutes. At times, both lanes of travel were closed so tow truck operators could safely remove the vehicle.
The traffic investigation showed that sixty-nine year old Stanislav Nekipelov lost control of his 2003 Honda CRV on the icy roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned the vehicle. There were no reported injuries.
Nekipelov was issued a citation for basic speed, which is for operating a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent considering the traffic, roadway, and weather conditions.
