INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Assault 2 and Assault 4 - Domestic Violence
Date: 2016-02-04
From: Sgt. Brian Dallas
Case or Incident: #160204-003
Summary:

On February 4th, 2016 at about 12:25 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of people fighting in the area of Telephone Hill and Dixon St.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted a 33 year old female that had torn clothing, blood about her chest and arms, and found to have a puncture wound to her upper right arm. Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to evaluate the female and transported her to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation revealed that the female was in an argument with her boyfriend, 36 year old Robert Paul Jr., and was walking away from him when he ran after her and knocked her to the ground. Two individuals walking through the area witnessed Paul on top of the female striking her and refusing to let her up. The two witnesses went to the aid of the female and were able to get Paul off of her and found Paul was holding a knife. The two witnesses were able to keep Paul away from her until officers arrived on scene.

Paul was arrested for Assault in the 2nd Degree (DV) and Assault in the 4th Degree (DV). He was transported to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center where he was held without bail.

Assault in the 2nd Degree is a Class B felony which is punishable by up to 10 years in jail and a $100,000.00 fine. Assault in the 4th Degree is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in jail and a $10,000.00 fine.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues.
