INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Motor Vehicle Crash

Summary:

On 12/11/15 at about 9:22 am, the Juneau Police Department received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash on inbound Egan Drive near the Lemon Creek Bridge. Capital City Fire/Rescue and JPD Officers were actively working another motor vehicle accident on Egan Drive at Vanderbilt Road. Additional CCFR personnel and JPD Officers responded to the second crash.

Investigation revealed that traffic had been slowing or stopping on Egan Drive as portions of Egan Drive had been restricted due to ongoing crash investigation at the Vanderbilt Road Intersection. A Capital Transit Bus had stopped on Egan Drive along with other traffic and was rear-ended by a 1989 Isuzu truck operated by a 20 year old female. The driver did not see the traffic ahead of her had stopped and struck the bus with significant force.

The bus operator and the two passengers on the bus were not injured. The driver of the Isuzu sustained serious injuries and was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Environmental factors contributed to the crash. The driver of the Isuzu was cited for Failing to Maintain a Safe Distance.

Portions of Egan Drive were closed for about 90 minutes for the crash investigation.
