Summary: The Juneau Police Department will soon be kicking off its third ?Spot The Chief? campaign. In the summer of 2013 JPD started ?Spot The Chief? to encourage drivers to see and pay attention to bicyclists. The program has been very popular during the last two summers so JPD has decided to run the program for a third year.
?Spot the Chief? involves JPD Chief of Police Bryce Johnson wearing a spotted bike jersey and riding around different areas of Juneau at random times over a two week period. Drivers call JPD after they see Johnson, hopefully once he or she is parked, and report where Johnson was riding. Those callers have typically gotten a 10 dollar bill. This year the prizes are increasing.
Winners will still get a ten spot. The Capital City Chapter of the Alaska Peace Officers Association is again donating the cash for the ten dollar bills. This year APOA has added a water bottle with the APOA logo and Cycle Alaska has kicked in a bicycle light for each winner.
JPD would like to motorists to watch for bicyclists all the time but starting July 27, 2015 through August 7, 2015, keep a particularly sharp eye out for Chief Johnson in his spotted jersey. Once you spot him, and are no longer driving, you can call 586-0600 to claim your prize.
