INFORMATION RELEASE

Case or Incident: #150713-009
On July 13, 2015, at about 2:15 in the afternoon, security personnel at the Federal Building in Juneau reported a woman who was running near the building with a man dropped a bag in the parking lot used by the U.S. Post Office, which is located on the ground floor of the Federal Building. Security personnel kept people away from the bag and asked for assistance from the Juneau Police Department. The woman who dropped the bag returned about half an hour after leaving the bag and asked for it back. She fled the area when security personnel indicated she needed to wait for police response.
Two JPD officers who are explosive ordnance disposal specialists responded and X-rayed the bag in place. The contents did not appear suspicious so the bag was collected. A block of Glacier Highway along the side of the Federal Building was closed while the officers examined the bag. That road closure started at about 4:30 in the afternoon and lasted about 15 minutes.
The bag was searched at JPD and drug paraphernalia was found but no illegal items. JPD would still like to speak with the woman who left the bag in the parking lot.
