On 05/13/2015, at approximately 12:49 PM, Mendenhall River Community School received a threatening phone call. The school was placed into a ?stay put? mode.
Juneau Police Department officers responded and found no incident at the school. The school was search by officers and school staff and everything was fine. The school then returned to normal activities.
At about 12:55 PM, a second threat was issued at Juneau-Douglas High School. Juneau Police Department officers responded and found no incident at the school, and everything appeared fine. The school returned to normal activities.
All of the threats received were from a computer or electronic sounding voice. While the messages were not identical, all the threats pertained to a school shooting. All of the threats were of generic violence and no specific school or person was named.
The Juneau Police Department and Juneau School District takes every school threat seriously. Each threat is investigated as a standalone incident, but all the threats are being reviewed by a JPD detective. JPD is also working cooperatively on these incidents with the Alaska State Troopers and Federal Authorities.
The investigation is continuing.
