INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Reckless Driving
Date: 2015-04-21
From: Sgt. Chris Gifford
Case or Incident: #150421-002
Summary:

On 04-21-2015 at 7:35 AM, Juneau Police received reports of a collision on Columbia Boulevard, near Cedar Court. One caller reported a vehicle attempting to ?ram? a person. Arriving officers found a 1999 Mercury Courier, which had damaged a fence and a mailbox of a residence in the 4100 block of Columbia Boulevard. The driver of the Mercury, 35 year-old Artie J. Ray, reported being chased by the driver of another vehicle at the scene. That vehicle was a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 28 year-old Joseph T. Eller. The investigation revealed Eller saw Ray operating his Mercury in a reckless manner on Loop Road. Eller pursued Ray through the Mendenhaven area until cornering Ray?s vehicle on Cedar Court, which is a cul-de-sac. As Ray drove his vehicle back toward Columbia Boulevard, where Eller was standing, Eller threw items at the Mercury, causing minor damage. The Mercury lost control after turning onto Columbia Boulevard, damaging the fence and the mailbox.

Eller was cited and released for Criminal Mischief, a misdemeanor. Ray was cited and released for Criminal Mischief and Reckless Driving, both misdemeanors. There were no injuries in this incident. Alcohol was not a factor.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
