Case or Incident: #150313-017
On 3/13/15 at about 2244 hours, the Juneau Police Department (JPD) and Capital City Fire and Rescue (CCFR) responded to a two vehicle collision in the area of Glacier Hwy and Pederson Hill.
An investigation revealed that 53 year old James Miller was driving outbound on Glacier Hwy when he lost control of his vehicle, a 1985 Toyota truck, due to icy road conditions. In Miller?s attempt to regain control of the vehicle he drove into the oncoming lane of travel and struck a 2013 Ford Focus, driven by a 42 year old female. The Ford Focus was also occupied by a 35 year old male.
Shortly after the initial collision, a 55 year old male driving a 2005 Dodge Neon was traveling inbound on Glacier Hwy. The driver saw the vehicles from the initial collision in the roadway, attempted to avoid them, and drove into the ditch.
The driver of the Ford Focus was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital by CCFR for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The Ford Focus sustained about $20,000 in damage while the Toyota truck and Dodge Neon each sustained about $1,500 in damage. Glacier Hwy was closed between Swampy Acres and Pederson Hill for about 50 minutes due to the collision.
Miller was issued a citation for Basic Speed, which in essence, is driving too fast for the road conditions.
