INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Motor Vehicle Crash
Date: 2015-03-11
From: Sgt. Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #150311-004
Summary:

On 03-11-15, at 2:52PM, JPD received a report of a motor vehicle crash in the outbound lane of Egan Drive, just past Norway Point. During this time, it was snowing heavily, and the roadway was becoming slick.

JPD officers arrived in the area and located the vehicle involved in the crash. In the same area, another vehicle lost control while trying to avoid the first crash, and struck the guard rail. Both of these vehicles sustained minor damages, and there were no reported injuries.

While a JPD officer was assisting the driver of the second crash, a blue 1995 Geo struck the patrol vehicle from behind, causing a third motor vehicle crash in the same area.

The Geo sustained about $4,000 in damages, it was disabled, and had to be towed from the scene. The patrol vehicle sustained about $2,000 in damages, but was driven from the scene. The driver and a passenger of the Geo sustained minor injuries, but didn't need medical attention.

The driver of the Geo, 20 year old Chelsea Lewis-Pope, was given a citation for failing to exercise due care to avoid colliding with another vehicle.

During the investigation of these motor vehicle crashes, the outbound lane of Egan Drive was closed for about thirty minutes, and traffic was re-routed onto Glacier Highway.

After the roadway was cleared, DOT put deicer on the roadway.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
