INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Motor Vehicle Crash
Date: 2015-02-12
From: Sergeant Wrightson
Case or Incident: #150212-006
Summary:

On February 12, 2015 at approximately 9:15 a.m., the Juneau Police Department received a report of a single vehicle crash involving a loaded rock truck on Veterans Memorial Highway, just before the ferry terminal.

Officers responded and found a commercial tractor and loaded end dump trailer combination, on its side and blocking the inbound lane of travel.

The investigation revealed the vehicle lost traction on the snow and ice as it drove down a steep road leading to the highway from the rock pit. The driver said he started to slide, tried to steer the vehicle into the guard rail to avoid going onto the highway, but the vehicle continued over the guardrail, into the highway and rolled onto its side. The driver was the only occupant and he was not injured.

Traffic was limited to a single lane until approximately 10:45 a.m. while the vehicle was righted, removed and the rock was picked up.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $6000 and damage to the guardrail was estimated at $2000. State DOT was notified.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
