INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: JPD Quarterly Awards Ceremony
Date: 2015-02-06
From: Lieutenant David Campbell
Case or Incident: #N/A
Summary:

On 02/06/2015, the Juneau Police Department held a Quarterly Awards Ceremony. The ceremony recognized employees for work accomplished during the fourth quarter of 2014. The three officers recognized were as follows:

Officer Brent Bartlett and Officer James Dooley ? Medal of Bravery. On October 25th, 2014 the Juneau Police Department received a report requesting a welfare check on a male who was reported as being distraught and possibly in possession of a firearm. Officers located the man in an apartment and began speaking with him. The man then said ?Don?t freak out?, pulled a loaded handgun out of his rear waistband, and brought the handgun up toward his own head. Officers drew their own firearms and then grabbed ahold of the man. Officers were able to pin the handgun against the man?s chest and prevent it from firing. Officers got the handgun away from the man and took him into custody. At great personal risk, Officer Bartlett and Officer Dooley were able to resolve the incident without anyone getting hurt.

Sergeant David Wrightson ? Life Saving Medal. On November 17th, 2014 the Juneau Police Department received a report that a male had lost consciousness at the Juneau International Airport. Sergeant Wrightson was working at the airport and located the unconscious male within one minute. The man did not have a pulse and Sergeant Wrightson began CPR. Within minutes the male regained consciousness. Capital City Fire Rescue personnel arrived and transported the man to BRH for further medical treatment. CCFR paramedics said that Sergeant Wrightson?s quick action saved the man?s life.

Congratulations Sergeant David Wrightson, Officer Brent Bartlett, and Officer James Dooley for exceptional service to the people of the City and Borough of Juneau.
