On 02-01-2015 at 6:24 PM, Juneau Police received multiple reports of a head-on collision involving two vehicles at the Mendenhall Loop Road and Stephen Richards Memorial Drive intersection. Prior to police arrival, one of the drivers was reported to have left the scene of the collision on foot. Investigation revealed a 2000 Mazda pickup truck, driven by an unknown male, failed to yield as it turned left in front of a 2004 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 60 year-old female. The woman was not hurt in the collision. Both vehicles were totaled.
Traffic was affected in the intersection for about 20 minutes. The investigation into this case is continuing. It is unknown whether alcohol was a factor. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact JPD at 907-586-0600.
