INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Protective Order Violation
Date: 2014-06-12
From: Sgt. Chris Gifford
Case or Incident: #140611-011
Summary:

On June 11, 2014 at about 9:00 PM, Juneau Police received a third-hand report of a disturbance in the 19000 block of Cohen Drive. The caller reported what sounded like a domestic disturbance, which included the sound of two gunshots from a residence. Officers responded and contacted a man leaving the area with several firearms in his vehicle. The man told police he had been involved in an altercation with an intoxicated friend, later identified as 31 year-old Nathan Leask. He said Leask was threatening to locate and assault a woman. The woman was not present at the time, and the friend took the firearms away from Leask. Leask left the area on foot, headed into the surrounding woods. He was not believed to be armed at that time. An active Domestic Violence Protective Order (DVO) was in place prohibiting Leask from being at the Cohen Drive residence. Officers were unable to locate Leask.

On June 12, 2014 at 8:30 AM, police received a call from the woman stating she had returned from a fishing trip, and she believed Leask was still looking for her. Officers again checked the residence on Cohen Drive with negative results. He was later located at a construction jobsite on Marion Drive and arrested. Leask was lodged on one count each of Violating a DVO, and Criminal Mischief (DV). Both charges are misdemeanors. He was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center without bail. Alcohol was a factor in this incident.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
