On 05/20/2014, the Juneau Police Department held a Quarterly Award Ceremony. The following awards were issued:
Officer Sterling Salisbury was issued a Life Saving Medal for an incident that occurred on January 5th, 2014. In essence, Officer Salisbury entered an apartment, extinguished a small kitchen fire, and pulled an intoxicated male out of the smoke filled apartment. The intoxicated male was revived and taken to BRH by CCFR.
Officer Tommy Penrose is also being issued a Life Saving Medal for the same incident that occurred on January 5th, 2014. However, Officer Penrose was not available to attend the Awards Ceremony.
Officer Sterling Salisbury was issued a second Life Saving Medal for an incident that occurred on March 28th, 2014. In essence, Officer Salisbury responded to a single vehicle accident where the car had knocked over a power pole. On arrival, Officer Salisbury found the female driver unconscious and lying on the ground next to the driver?s door and under the guild wires used to support the power pole. Officer Salisbury reached under the wires and pulled the female to safety. CCFR determined that the guild wires had cross the power lines and were live with electricity. The unconscious female was taken to BRH by CCFR.
11 year old Kayley James was issued JPD Citizen?s Certificate of Merit for an incident that occurred in early 2014. In essence, Kayley called JPD to report that a man had punched one of her family members several times in the face. The male fled before officers arrived and was not located. Approximately one hour later, Kayley saw the male walking down Hospital Drive and called JPD. The male was located and arrested for Assault Domestic Violence and Violating a Protective Order. Kayley showed great courage and maturity in reporting the crime and working with JPD to locate the suspect.
JPD also issued the 2013 Employees of the Year. The following employees were recognized:

Dispatcher of the Year ? Meghan Kennedy-Brown
Leader of the Year ? Erann Kalwara
Officer of the Year - Officer Blain Hatch
