Subject: Misconduct Weapons at School

Summary:

On 05/19/2014, at approximately 6:42 PM, the Juneau Police Department was notified by a parent that their child had seen another child at school with a pistol. Officers interviewed the 13 year old male witness, who said he was attending Saturday school on May 17th at Floyd Dryden Middle School when another 13 year old male showed him a pistol.

Officers contacted the school and identified the 13 year old suspect. A search warrant was then obtained for the suspect?s house.

On 05/19/2014, at approximately 10:15 PM, JPD officers contacted the 13 year old suspect and his parents at their home. The pistol that had been brought to school was located, and it turned out to be a very realistic looking BB pistol. The 13 year old suspect said he took the BB pistol to school to show off. Two BB pistols were seized as evidence. The 13 year old suspect was left in the care of his parents.

The case is being forwarded to the Johnson Youth Center for consideration of Reckless Endangerment charges. The school has also been notified of the incident.
