INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: MVC - Injury
Date: 2014-05-18
From: Sgt. Brian Dallas
Case or Incident: #140518-007
Summary:

On May 18, 2014 at about 3:53PM, the Juneau Police Department received several reports of a motor vehicle accident involving injuries on Glacier Hwy and Back Loop. Officers and members of Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to the collision.

The investigation revealed that a silver 2008 Toyota Tacoma, operated by a 47 year old male resident, had rear-ended a red 1996 Subaru Legacy, operated by a 58 year old female resident, twice in quick succession and continued to travel straight as the road curved near Auke Bay Harbor. The Toyota then drove through the roundabout construction project, located at the base of Back Loop, and struck three newly poured cement curbs before entering the ditch and striking an embankment.

The 47 year old driver was evaluated on scene by Capital City Fire/Rescue Personnel and released. The 58 year old female sought medical treatment on her own for precautionary reasons.
The Toyota truck was totaled and the Subaru was estimated to have sustained approximately $1,500.00 damage. Complete damage estimates for the construction project are pending further inspection.

The roadway was partially shut down for about 1 hour and caused minor delays for passing motorists.

No citations were issued as the collision was determined to be caused by medical issues.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
