INFORMATION RELEASE

On 05-13-2014 at 8:00 PM, a 31 year-old man reported what appeared to be an attempted robbery in the area of Glacier Highway and Davis Avenue. Officers responded and met with the caller, who said he arranged online to meet with the seller of a toolbox near a storage unit in the 5600 block of Glacier Highway. The victim told police he began following the seller toward the storage unit, and noticed a white Ford pickup following them. Before reaching the storage unit, the seller suddenly ran away. Shortly after, two men from the Ford pickup approached the man asking what the other man had given him, in an accusatory manner. Afraid for his safety, the caller got into his car and began driving toward JPD, but saw the truck drive away and returned to his storage unit. The victim believed the incident was over. However, the victim said the two returned about ten minutes later and again approached his vehicle demanding to know where the other man was, and this time one of the men was carrying a baseball bat.

The two men, identified as 21 year-old Shawn Z. Miller and 27 year-old Matthew L. Brown were looking for the third man, falsely believing him to be a friend of the caller. Miller and Brown again left in the Ford truck, which was spotted by a JPD officer a short distance away, in the area of Glacier Highway and Anka Street. The officer stopped the truck. Miller and Brown described an earlier transaction involving a cellular phone and possibly cash with the man whom the victim met for the toolbox. Miller and Brown let the third unknown man into the backseat of the truck, with the intention of selling him a cellular phone. While inspecting the phone, the man in the backseat suddenly ran with the phone and cash from the vehicle. The two occupants of the truck believed he ran into the vehicle occupied by the victim, and approached the victim in an attempt to get their property back, but realized the caller did not know the person. Miller and Brown were both arrested for Assault and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center. Each was held on $1,500 bail.

The investigation into this incident is continuing.
