On (Monday) May 5th, 2014 at 8:15PM, a Juneau Police officer on foot patrol in Marine Park reported being nearly struck by a vehicle on Marine Way.
The occupants of the vehicle were briefly detained, and it was determined the vehicle, a 1989 Pontiac Grand-Am, had experienced brake failure while traveling down Main Street.
The vehicle made a left turn at the intersection of Egan and Main, traveled onto the sidewalk, struck the Wharf Building, and continued on Marine Way until colliding with a tour bus.
Damage to the Pontiac, the tour bus, and the building was minor. The driver of the Pontiac, 21 year-old Marcus Worthington, was cited for operating an unsafe vehicle and failing to carry proof of insurance. The vehicle was impounded. Alcohol was not a factor in this incident.
