This Alaska Peace Officers Association Press Release is being sent out through Juneau Police Department channels with permission from Chief Johnson.

Police Memorial Week is May 11 through May 17 this year. Police Memorial Day is May 15th each year and the surrounding week is designated as Police Memorial Week. There will be two memorial ceremonies in Juneau, both on May 9th, 2014. Typically ceremonies in Juneau are held prior to the week of activities scheduled for Washington D.C.. so that the families of fallen officers can attend ceremonies in both communities, if they wish.

The ceremonies in Juneau are being organized by the Alaska Peace Officers Association-Capital City Chapter. On May 9th, at noon, there will be a graveside ceremony at the Evergreen Cemetery in downtown Juneau. That ceremony is at the final resting place of Richard Adair, a Juneau Police Department Officer killed in the line of duty April 17, 1979.
The second ceremony will at Thunder Mountain High School, in the commons area, also on May 9th, at 5:30 p.m.. After the ceremony there will be a social hour for law enforcement families and friends to eat and spend time together.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
