INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Motor Vehicle Collision - Injury
Date: 2014-03-29
From: Officer Sterling Salisbury
Case or Incident: #140328-009
Summary:

On 3/28/14 at about 9:46 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a single vehicle accident on Davis Ave at Churchill Way. The caller reported a power pole had been knocked over and was on top of the vehicle with a female occupant still inside the vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and located a grass fire, caused by the vehicle accident near the 1800 block of Davis Ave. Two responding officers were able to extinguish the fire, which was approximately 10 feet high and beginning to burn a power pole.

A patrol officer located the single vehicle crash and saw a female lying on the ground near a 2001 Lincoln Continental. The female, who appeared injured, was lying underneath three power lines. The officer dragged the female away from the exposed wires and Capital City Fire/Rescue responded and tended to the female and a male passenger.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver, a 49 year old female Juneau resident and her passenger, a 49 year old male Juneau resident were transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for evaluation and did not appear to have any life threatening injuries.

Alaska Electric Light and Power responded and removed the power line from the roadway.

Davis Ave was closed for approximately an hour and a half.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene. Property damage was estimated to have approximately $5000 damage pending an assessment. The accident is still under investigation. Alcohol and speed appear to be a factor in the incident.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
