INFORMATION RELEASE

From: Sgt. Brian Dallas
Case or Incident: #140324-004
On 03/24/14 at about 3:46 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a vehicle driving off the roadway and striking a residential garage in the area of 17 mile Glacier Hwy. The caller reported the sole occupant of the vehicle was outside of the vehicle and being combative with good Samaritans trying to assist. Officers along with Capital City Fire/Rescue responded and located a single vehicle with extensive damage parked against the garage.
Investigation revealed the vehicle, a blue 2008 Mercury Mariner, had been traveling inbound on Glacier Hwy and continued straight as the road began curving to the right. The vehicle struck a pile of brush at a high rate of speed and went airborne for approximately 40 feet, where it landed and struck an embankment and a cluster of trees. The vehicle then rolled backwards down the embankment, crossed both lanes of Glacier Hwy, and struck the garage structure.
The driver, a 54 year old female resident, was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for evaluation and did not appear to have any life threatening injuries.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene. The residential garage was estimated to have approximately $2,500.00 damage pending a full assessment. The accident is still under investigation. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the incident.
