The Capital City Chapter of the Alaska Peace Officers Association (APOA) would like to invite Juneau residents to participate in its fourth annual sprint triathlon to be held on Saturday May 3rd, 2014. This event is an opportunity for athletes to raise money for athletes. All proceeds will be donated to Special Olympics, Juneau Community. There are still openings for people to sign up but space is limited. You can register at Active.com or by emailing [email protected] and requesting a registration form. Teams are allowed! The registration fee is $50 for an individual competitor and $25 for a team member. If you would like to volunteer to assist you can also email [email protected].
For the first time there will be a kid?s triathlon immediately following the Sprint Triathlon. ?Ironkids? must be 11 years old or under. The ?Ironkids? triathlon is co-sponsored by CBJ and APOA. That no-cost race will have a 50 or 100 yard swim, athletes choice, and a mile bike ride and half mile run. The bike and run courses are not on the roadway but stay on city property. Adult supporters may accompany the racer and all racers get a medal upon completion. The APOA triathlon will start at 7:00 a.m. at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center. Athletes can check in at 6:15 a.m.. The swim is ten laps and will be followed by a 12.7 mile bike ride around Back Loop Road and a 3.2 mile run on the Brotherhood Bridge trail. The ?Ironkids? triathlon will begin at 9:00 a.m..
The awards ceremony for the event will be held on May 5th, 2014 at 6pm at the Juneau Police Department.
