INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Motor Vehicle Crash
Date: 2014-02-18
From: Sergeant Branson
Case or Incident: #140217-009
Summary:

On February 17, 2014 at about 10:09pm, the Juneau Police Department received several reports of a multi vehicle crash at 4 mile Egan Drive. Police and Capital City Fire and Rescue responded to the area.

Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles stuck in the median of Egan Drive and a third vehicle on the outbound shoulder of the highway with disabling damage. Investigation revealed that 27 year old Jessica McWhorter was driving her 2003 Dodge Neon outbound on Egan Drive when she lost control of the vehicle, struck the guard rail twice totaling the vehicle, and came to a stop in the middle of the outbound lanes. Two vehicles traveling behind the Neon took action to avoid the crash and became stuck in the median.

The two vehicles were removed from the median and driven from the scene. The Neon was towed. Due to the traffic hazards of disabled vehicles and icy road conditions, the outbound lanes of Egan drive were closed for approximately 1 hour while the crash was investigated and the vehicles were removed from the scene. There were no reported injuries. McWhorter was cited for failing to show proof of insurance.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
