On 10-27-2013 at 5:19 am, Juneau Police received a report of an assault involving a knife in the vicinity of the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor?s Center. Officers responding located a man with a laceration to his head. The man, a 31-year old local resident, told police he had been walking with two other men when one of them attacked him without provocation with a large knife. The victim was able to get away and call police. He was transported to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, and later released. The victim and the suspect are long-time acquaintances and former roommates.
Police later served a search warrant on a residence on Kanata Deyi Street, and did not locate the suspect.
On 10-31-2013, police located the suspect at his residence. The suspect, 31 year-old local resident Warren R. Sheakley III, was arrested and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center on one count of Assault in the Third Degree (Domestic Violence), and one count of Interfering With a Report of Domestic Violence. He was held without bail. Alcohol was a factor in this incident.
