On October 1, 2013, at about 07:16 in the morning, a citizen reported a man was lying down between a wood wall and a chain link fence in the area of the Coast Guard Subport parking lot across Egan Drive from the Goldbelt Hotel. Juneau Police Department Officers and members of Capital City Fire and Rescue responded and found 52 year old Juneau resident Peter Karl John Jr. was recently deceased.
One lane of Egan Drive was closed during part of the investigation. Foul play is not suspected at this point. The state Medical Examiner will be conducting an autopsy to assist in determining the cause of John's death.
