On Friday, September 20th, 2013 at 5:00 PM, Juneau Police responded to a reported shoplifter at Safeway. The caller, an employee, reported another employee was chasing the suspect across the parking lot in the direction of the Mendenhall River. The suspect was picked up by a vehicle and began to leave, but was stopped by a federal law enforcement agent who was in the area. The suspect complied with the agent for a brief period of time, and again began running from the area. A Juneau Police officer located the suspect a short distance away and took the man into custody.
The suspect was identified as 22 year-old Tony Darryl Tompkins, a Juneau resident. He was charged with Larceny, and additionally served with an outstanding no-bail arrest warrant charging failure to appear on an original charge of Larceny. He was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center without bail. Alcohol was a factor in this incident.
