On 08/12/2013, the Juneau Police Department Metro Drug Unit received a tip concerning illegal drug trafficking between Las Vegas and Juneau.
On 09/10/2013, the JPD Metro Drug Unit received a second tip concerning the same activity. This second tip indicated that drugs were being flow to Juneau and were expected to arrive later in the evening. A JPD Metro Drug investigator was able to confirm the information from the second tip and also established independent drug related information about person flying to Juneau.
On 09/10/2013, at approximately 9:40 PM, members of the JPD Metro Drug Unit and federal authorities contacted 30 year old Justin Elliott YUHASZ in the baggage area of the Juneau International Airport. YUHASZ is a Newburyport, Ma resident.
YUHASZ was detained and taken to the Bartlett Regional Hospital. At BRH, officers executed a search warrant and a doctor determined that YUHASZ had foreign objects hidden inside his body.
On 09/11/2013, at approximately 3:05 AM, JPD investigators recovered several objects as they passed through YUHASZ?s body. The objects were seized pursuant to the search warrant. The objects were discovered to contain a substance that field tested positive as heroin. The heroin weighed approximately 103.5 grams and had an estimated street value of approximately $103,500.
YUHASZ was arrested for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree, a Class A Felony. YUHASZ was transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held on No Bail.
The investigation is continuing.
