On 09/10/2013, at approximately 8:44 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a call from a lost hiker. The hiker, a 69 year old Juneau female resident, reported that she was hiking the Sheep Creek Mine Road and had become lost. The hiker said she was alone, had little food or water, her headlamp was losing power, and she was wet and cold.
JPD officers responded to the Sheep Creek trailhead, located off Jackson Road. Officers used their emergency lights and sirens to try and signal the hiker. The lost hiker said she was able to see the emergency lights on the patrol cars. Officers then headed up the trail and located the hiker at approximately 9:16 PM.
The hiker did not require medical assistance and was escorted back to her waiting vehicle.
Alcohol was not a contributing factor in this incident.
