On 08/26/2013, at approximately 11:46 AM, the Juneau Police Department received an online report that the tip jar from the Sandbar and Gill had been stolen. The theft occurred earlier in the day at approximately 12:40 AM and it was estimated that the tip jar contained approximately $100 in cash.
Video surveillance from the Sandbar and Grill showed a male stealing the tip jar. In addition to providing the images to the Juneau Police, personnel from the Sandbar and Grill posted an image of the suspect on Facebook and Craigslist. Tips from the public identified the suspect as 30 year old Juneau resident Joseph Robert LOFSTROM.
JPD was already looking for LOFSTROM for a theft reported by the Juneau Gold Buyer. In essence, on 08/23/2013, Juneau Gold Buyer personnel reported that LOFSTROM had been hired as an employee and stole $115 in cash.
On 08/28/2013, at approximately 1:30 PM, JPD officers contacted LOFSTROM on Trout Street. LOFSTROM was interviewed and his clothes were seized as possible evidence. LOFSTROM was arrested for two counts of Theft in the 3rd Degree, Class A Misdemeanors. LOFSTROM was transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held on $1,000 bail.
