On 08/23/2013, at approximately 1:29 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a sexual assault in progress at Marine Park. Officers were in the area of Marine Park and arrived at the location of the sexual assault in less than one minute. Officers contacted the witness, victim, and suspect.
The witness, a 24 year old female Juneau resident, said she had been in the area earlier in the evening and saw the victim passed out. The witness said she tried to wake up the victim, but the victim was too intoxicated. The witness said she returned and found the victim being sexually groped by the suspect.
The victim, a 28 year old female Juneau resident, said she did not know the suspect and did not consent to having sex. The victim was transported to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The suspect was identified as 49 year old Juneau resident Gilbert Charles WILLARD, who was detained. Officers obtained a search warrant and WILLARD was transported to BRH for the collection of evidence. WILLARD was ultimately arrested for Sexual Assault in the Second Degree, a Class B Felony. WILLARD was transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held on No Bail.
Alcohol was a contributing factor in this case.
The investigation is continuing.
