On July 29, 2013, at about 4:56 PM, the Juneau Police Department received multiple reports of a motor vehicle collision involving four vehicles in the northbound turn lane of Egan Drive as it turns onto Mendenhall Loop Road. Other callers said the collision was blocking the turn lane and injuries were involved.
The investigation revealed a silver 2004 Mitsubishi operated by 27 year old Juneau resident Ashley Kennedy was unable to stop and rear-ended a blue 2003 Toyota operated by a 33 year old female resident. Due to the inertia from the collision, the Toyota was pushed forward and rear-ended a green 1998 Ford Taurus operated by a 20 year old male resident, which then collided with a silver 2007 Toyota Prius operated by a 56 year old female resident.
Capital City Fire/Rescue arrived on scene and examined all the occupants of the vehicles for minor, non-life threatening injuries. No one was transported from the scene.
Driver inattention appeared to be the determining factor in this case. Ashley Kennedy was cited for Negligent Driving.
As a result of the collision, the turn lane was closed to traffic for approximately 45 minutes.
