INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: JPD Reorganization and Promotions
Date: 2013-07-29
From: Lieutenant David Campbell
Case or Incident: #N/A
Summary:

On 07/29/2013, the Juneau Police Department administration was reorganized. In an effort to flatten the administration the Assistant Chief and Captain positions were combined into a new Deputy Chief position. A new Lieutenant position was also established to help with a variety of administrative and public outreach duties. The resulting flatter administration should provide for a more responsive leadership style with more lines of communication going directly to Police Chief Bryce Johnson.

The Juneau Police Department is pleased to announce that Ed Mercer will be promoted to the new Deputy Chief position, and Scott Erickson will be promoted to Lieutenant. Deputy Chief Ed Mercer has over 20 years of police experience and will be in charge of the Operations Division. Lieutenant Scott Erickson has almost 18 years of police service and will oversee Patrol. Lieutenant Kris Sell will remain supervising the Criminal Investigations Unit and Lieutenant David Campbell will assume the new Executive Officer Lieutenant position.

Deputy Chief Mercer and Lieutenant Erickson will officially be promoted on Wednesday, 7/31/2013 at 2:00 PM, at the Juneau Police Department.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues.
