On July 28, 2013 at 10:54 AM, Juneau Police received a report of a vehicle/bicycle collision on Back Loop Road, near Goat Hill Road. Responding officers found a man riding a bicycle who had collided with a 15-passenger style van near the side of the road. Investigation revealed the bicyclist had been traveling on Back Loop Road from the direction of Auke Bay, and was traveling downhill at the time of the collision. The van was beginning a left turn onto Back Loop Road from a private driveway.
The bicyclist, a 65 year-old local man, was transported by ambulance to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of apparently non-life threatening injuries. The van, driven by a 27 year-old local man, sustained about $500 in damage as a result of the crash.
The investigation in this case is continuing. Alcohol was not a factor in this incident.
