INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Juneau Police Memorial Ceremonies
Date: 2013-04-29
From: Alaska Peace Officers Association-Capital City Chapter
Case or Incident: #NA
Summary:

The 2013 National Police Week will take place May 12-18. National Police Memorial Day will be May 15th, 2013. There have been 38 Line of Duty Deaths in 2013, up 23% from the prior year. Two of those officer deaths have been in Alaska. Those officers are Village Public Safety Officer Thomas Madole, who was shot and murdered on March 7, 2013 and Alaska State Trooper Tage Toll who died in an aircraft crash on March 30, 2013.
The Capital City Chapter of the Alaska Peace Officers Association would like to invite the public and those associated with law enforcement to two Police Officer Memorial events on May 15, 2013. At noon there will be a wreath-laying at Evergreen Cemetery. At 6 p.m. there will be a ceremony at the Juneau Police Department (JPD). The ceremony will begin in front of the department. Then there will be a partial showing of a documentary about fallen officers and their families inside JPD. The film was sponsored by the National Police Memorial in D.C. and has received excellent reviews.
The evening ceremony will conclude with light refreshments and socializing. Retired officers with families are encouraged to attend and reunite with other law enforcement professionals both active duty and retired.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
