INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: National Public Safety Telecommunications Week
Date: 2013-04-17
From: Juneau Police Department
Case or Incident: #
Summary:

Since 1991, the United States Congress has designated the second full week of April as ?National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.? This week, falling on April 14-20 this year, is designated as a time for Americans to show gratitude to 9-1-1 call takers, dispatchers, trainers and technicians across the country who work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to help during emergencies.

This morning the Fire Department and Police Department gathered at JPD to recognize Juneau?s Public Safety Dispatchers. Mayor Merrill Sanford delivered a proclamation honoring the work that dispatchers do to contribute to the apprehension of criminals, suppression of fires and treatment of patients while exhibiting compassion, understanding and professionalism during performance of their duties.

It is a great time to thank those in the public safety communications community who dedicate their lives to serving the public.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues.
